Go ahead and ask. What’s the worst thing that could happen – you learn how he really feels? This could hurt your friendship, but being honest with yourself and your friend is worth the risk. Here are some tips.

1. Make the first move- teen guys have traditionally borne the burden of asking girls out. This is not true anymore.

2. Do something you enjoy together. Since you’re already friends, you have an idea of what interests him. Find an event that you know he’ll enjoy.

3. Make it happen. Some teen girls can just ask for what they want; others tend to be more shy or uncomfortable about that. If you are too shy to ask him in person, call him or email him.

4. Tell him you saw such and such was happening on a particular day and you thought you’d like to go. The trick is to sound like you’re going to go anyway.

5. Take a chance- one of the biggest fears for many people is ‘ruining the relationship’. Get over it. If he says no, do you really believe he won’t be your friend anymore? You’ll most likely flatter him.

6. Avoid the awkwardness by being casual about it. Leave him a way to say no without making either of you feel bad.

7. Don’t beat yourself up about how stupid you were if he says no. you’ve accomplished something here: He knows you like him. Now leave the ball in his court. If he makes a counter offer, you’re in!

8. Don’t, under any circumstances, ask him out more than twice.
